‘Project Runway’ Host Tim Gunn Calls Kanye West’s Yeezy Line a Hoax

Project Runway” host Tim Gunn is not impressed with Kanye West.

On Sept. 13, Gunn — who has held posts at Parsons School of Design and served as chief creative officer at Liz Claiborne — appeared on “Access Hollywood Live,” where he talked about the current state of the fashion industry and the upcoming 15th season of “Project Runway.”

When asked what he thought of Kanye West’s Yeezy line, Gunn said, “I’m totally perplexed about why the fashion industry has not looked at these frankly dumb, basic clothes and cried, ‘Hoax!’ Kanye West is a sphinx without a riddle. I don’t understand why people are so in awe. They’re basically wearing stretch undergarments. I think the only thing dumber than these clothes is the people who would buy them.”

Gunn isn’t one to shy away from a bit of controversy. In a recent op-ed he penned for the Washington Post, Gunn ripped designers for refusing to make clothing for plus-size women.

When the Yeezy Season 1 collection went on sale in November, Gunn criticized it on “Huffington Post Live.” He also said that he wasn’t impressed by Kendall Jenner and her modeling career, adding, “She may be a perfectly lovely young woman, but I just feel that she’s tainted by the Kardashian aura of yuck.”
