Adidas Unveils Crazy Explosive Basketball Shoe

“You haven’t seen Adidas shoes like this before,” says Minnesota Timberwolves star Andrew Wiggins. “These shoes are dope.”

Wiggins is praising Adidas’ new basketball shoe franchise, the Crazy Explosive. The shoe is set to be worn by Wiggins and fellow NBA players Harrison Barnes, Iman Shumpert, Serge Ibaka, Marcus Smart and Justise Winslow, among others.

The mid-top silhouette features a full-length Boost midsole for added comfort and energy return, power traction and a Primeknit upper and dynamic lacing for both breathability and lockdown.

“We designed Crazy Explosive to stand out from every other basketball shoe ever released, so when I saw the initial response on social media by fans and media, I knew that we accomplished our goal,” said Jesse Rademacher, design director for Adidas basketball.

“As players get bigger, faster and stronger, they need footwear that harnesses their raw power and explosiveness. For Crazy Explosive, we tuned our best Boost and Primeknit technologies to meet the needs of these players that are too versatile to be contained and thrive on unpredictability.  We packaged it with an equally stunning silhouette and Crazy Explosive was born.”

In addition to the comfort and performance features, Adidas also aimed for style with the Crazy Explosive.

“Adidas came to me with a shoe to make me more explosive on the court,” said Wiggins. “When I tried this shoe for the first time, I really felt the difference when attacking the basket. And we all care about style.”

The Solar Red colorway is available for pre-sale on Adidas.com and will be available globally on Aug. 1. Additional drops will happen throughout the year, including the Andrew Wiggins Home PE on Oct. 1 and the Triple Black on Oct. 10.
