Adidas Debuts ‘First Never Follows’ Film Series; Showcases Mercury Pack Soccer Cleats

To kick off its “First Never Follows” video series, Adidas unveiled a short film today featuring soccer stars Paul Pogba, Luis Suarez and Mesut Özil to coincide with its Mercury Pack cleat collection.

The cleats, according to Adidas, are inspired by the trophies that soccer players worldwide hope to win to become legends in the sport.

“Every player dreams about lifting trophies and creating a legacy for themselves. We wanted to create a range of boots that pays homage to that dream — that desire and ambition to be the best and to be first, not second,” said Sam Handy, VP of design at Adidas. “Mercury Pack is inspired by this motivation to win and designed with innovation and creative flair at its very heart. What we have created is a range of boots that will decide results on the biggest stages of all in 2016 and decide who makes it into the history books.”

The X16+ PureChaos and X16+ PureControl are the first two cleats in the collection, and according to Adidas, would be worn at the 2016 UEFA Champions League final. The collection’s third cleat, the Messi 16+ PureAgility, would be debuted on the pitch by the legendary Leo Messi at the Copa America Centenario this summer.

Although the first video features three players, the brand confirmed in a statement today that it would release individual videos for soccer superstars wearing the Mercury Pack cleats.
