What You Need To Know About The Air Jordan XXXI

Jordan Brand unveiled the Air Jordan XXXI on Wednesday night from Las Vegas, ushering in the second Air Jordan shoe of 2016. Taking inspiration from the sneaker that started the Michael Jordan signature shoe hysteria, the Air Jordan 1, the Air Jordan XXXI features elements from the inaugural sneaker and the latest technology Nike and Jordan Brand has to offer.

Here’s what you need to know about the Air Jordan XXXI.

Price: $185

Release date: Sept. 3

Branding: Throughout the Air Jordan catalog, three logos have appeared on the shoes: the Swoosh, the Jumpman and the Air Jordan wings. For the first time, all three appear on the same shoe. The Swoosh and the Jumpman appear on the lateral side of the shoe, while the wings appear on the medial side near its collar.

Materials: Sticking with the Air Jordan I inspiration, Jordan Brand included synthetic leather in the rear of the shoe. But keeping the shoe modern, it completed the sneaker with its celebrated Flyweave technology. The one-piece upper also boasts Flywire cables to help lock down the foot in the shoe.

Cushioning: The shoe boasts a full-length Zoom Air unit that is supported by the brand’s FlightSpeed technology, using a carbon fiber plate that works with Zoom Air to provide an explosive first step.

Outsole: The Air Jordan XXXI employs a translucent outsole with a traditional herringbone pattern for traction built for multidirectional cuts.

Banned inspiration: For the first iteration of the shoe, Jordan Brand uses the color palette of the Air Jordan I that was banned by the NBA in 1985 for violating its uniform policy at the time. It also boasts the word “Banned” in all capital letters on the outsole.
