Golf Legend Arnold Palmer Dies

Iconic golfer Arnold Palmer has died. He was 87 years old.

According to multiple reports, Palmer, who was widely regarded as one of the best — if not the best — golfers of all time, died today in Pittsburgh at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

Palmer was a seven-time major championship winner — four Masters, a pair of British Opens and a U.S. Open — and has 62 titles on the PGA Tour. After his playing career, Palmer served as an honorary starter at the Masters.

The legend on the green had a charismatic personality and was charming, making him a beloved figure outside of golf. Palmer starred in an ESPN commercial with anchors Scott Van Pelt and the late Stuart Scott making his half-and-half iced tea and lemonade drink, stunning the newscasters in the process.

Among golfers to offer condolences via social media was Nike-sponsored star golfer Tiger Woods, who took to Twitter with consecutive messages about his friend. “Thanks Arnold for your friendship, counsel and a lot of laughs. Your philanthropy and humility are part of your legend,” he wrote. “It’s hard to imagine golf without you or anyone more important to the game than the King.”
