The Story Behind The Shoe: Article No.’s Neutral Sneaker

For fall ’16, Los Angeles-based brand Article No. stands out in the saturated sneaker market with a refined hit.

Its low-top mixed-material 0120 style, outfitted in mesh, leather and suede, taps into the neutral trend via a tasteful color combo. And the great thing about neutrals? They can be laced up anywhere, anytime.

The Article No. team told Footwear News last year — as part of FN’s roundup of top emerging talent — that it is creating its designs for a discerning customer.

Joshua Willis, one of the brand’s four founders, said, “We’re appealing first and foremost to ourselves. If it stands up to that test, then we know it will work. Our lasts, combined with our athletic aesthetic and luxury materials, make for a unique signature.”

The confident California label was picked up early on by major retail accounts including Barneys and Kith. It is also currently sold at Bloomingdale’s and Lyst.com.
