Asics Launches DynaFlyte Lightweight Running Shoe At NYC Event

Asics is celebrating its latest shoe. After three years of research, the brand revealed its DynaFlyte running sneakers — its lightest cushioning shoe to date.

On Tuesday morning, the brand hosted an event in New York City, with star-power help from Asics athletes Ryan Hall and Candice Hill. Prior to a presentation about the technology behind the shoe, guests and editors were invited to test out the shoes during a three-mile run led by Hall.

During the talk, brand leaders and scientists from Asics’ Institute of Sports Science discussed the shoe features that were used on both the women’s and men’s version. The product has a FlyteFoam midsole (which took over 300 prototypes to perfect) and celebrates the idea that by maintaining cushioning on a lightweight shoe, runners can run faster. The FlyteFoam is built with reinforced fibers and is approximately 55 percent lighter than most midsole options.

“Runners experience less energy loss, more efficient running and unlock the potential for a speed at any distance,” according to the release.

Later in the day, Hall and Hill took to the stage for a brief conversation about the product and their love for the sport.

“Since retiring from running, I need the support and cushioning, but I can run fast in these shoes,” said Hall. He also reflected on when he first discovered his speed: “I always wanted to play baseball. I loved to run the bases and sprint as fast as I could.”

Hill, a high school track and field athlete in Georgia, added that she was also a fan of the design: “I like bold colors because it’s girl, but powerful at the same time.”
