Australian Open 2016: Shoes The Top Players Are Wearing

The first Grand Slam tennis tournament of 2016 has kicked off, and players are rocking fresh looks for the new year.

Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova have been wearing head-to-toe Nike for more than a decade. Rafael Nadal, who suffered his second career first-round loss, to fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco on Tuesday, has also been wearing Nike virtually his entire career.

With fifth seed Nadal knocked out, other top players, including No. 1-ranked Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka and Tomas Berdych have a smoother path. Djokovic wears Uniqlo apparel and Adidas sneakers. Adidas also recently signed Berdych.

At the 2015 U.S. Open, Murray — who signed an endorsement deal with Under Armour in January 2015 — wore Under Armour apparel with Adidas Barricade sneakers. Murray continued to wear Adidas until Under Armour created a tennis shoe that met his specifications. Murray now competes in Under Armour footwear.

No. 1-ranked female player Serena Williams had a stellar 2015, including being just a match away from nabbing a calendar-year Grand Slam until she lost to Italian Roberta Vinci at the U.S. Open. She was named “Sports Illustrated” Sportsperson of the Year. Williams continues to wear NikeCourt sneakers.
