Runners from around the world are ready to gather at this year’s Boston Marathon, to be held Monday. This time, the legendary event is being celebrated with a sneak preview of the upcoming documentary “Boston.”
A new 60-second spot for the film will debut in venues throughout the city, including Fenway Park, the John Hancock Sports and Fitness Expo, the finish-line area and John Hancock and Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) race week events.
The documentary is directed by award-winning filmmaker Jon Dunham, know for his “Spirit of the Marathon” films, and produced by Academy Award nominee Megan Williams. It records the celebrated history of the event from its origins in 1897.
Filmmakers spent the past three years recording interviews with champions and amateur runners from around the world, as well as the stories of members of the Boston Marathon community.

The film was initially put on hold due to the bombings during the 2013 marathon. However, the filmmaking team realized the importance of telling the story of the 2014 event and proceeded with the project. The film is tentatively set to be released in April 2017.
Dunham’s prior marathon films centered on six runners as they prepared for the 2005 Chicago Marathon, followed by a film about the 2012 Rome Marathon.
