Comme des Garcons and Nike are coming together once again, this time on a shoe that combines Nike’s latest technology and Comme des Garcon’s eccentric style.
The Comme des Garcons x Nike VaporMax sneaker, done in both white and black, made its debut last weekend in the label’s spring ’17 runway show at Paris Fashion Week. Nike’s VaporMax — building on its Air Max technology that debuted in 1987 — allows the Air unit to act as its own outsole instead of being insulated by a second layer of rubber.
Nike’s aim with the VaporMax is to create a look of walking on air. Comme des Garcons designer Rei Kawakubo worked with Nike to come up with a laceless slip-on version of the shoe with a Flyknit upper. A Comme des Garcons label runs up the side of the tongue of the shoe.
