Converse has updated some of its celebrated styles — starting with the iconic Chuck Taylor last July — by pairing it with current technologies from its parent company, Nike. The label’s next release puts a contemporary twist on its running shoe past.
The Converse Auckland Modern arrives Thursday and will retail for $110. The shoe will be sold at Converse stores and online at converse.com, as well as at select global retail partners.
According to the brand, the Auckland Modern is a new shoe inspired by its history in running — specifically the 1970s and 1980s, an era when Converse had partnerships with premier athletes and coaches.

“The Converse Auckland Modern is the latest in a series of new sneaker drops that are fusing our sport heritage with modern design,” said Bryan Cioffi, VP and creative director of Converse Global Footwear. “For this release we’ve taken inspiration from our running history and have modernized an iconic sneaker with new construction and lightweight materials. The Converse Auckland Modern continues our story in Converse Modern Footwear and what’s next for Converse and our fans.”
The shoe boasts a lightweight split knit upper, Nike Hyperfuse construction for durability and support, and a lightweight Phylon outsole with flex grooves for mobility. The silhouette will debut in five colorways: black and soar; black and white; black and lucid green; black and action red; and black and dark gray.
