This Shoe Brand Gave a Homeless Man a Pair of $1,095 Sneakers

At a price tag of $1,095, Fear of God’s creative director Jerry Lorenzo is putting into perspective the true value of a shoe.

Overwhelmed by his “rich friends” who ask for freebies yet have so much, the designer took to L.A.’s impoverished Skid Row area on Monday and gave away free sneakers from his label to those who have a greater appreciation for its true utility: the homeless community.

“I drive through downtown L.A. every day — passing people sleeping in tents — people in sleeping bags on the concrete,” Lorenzo explained in a video posted today. “That, coupled with the fact that I’m getting hit and blown up by all of my rich friends that can definitely afford to buy these that want free shoes to the kids that stand in line for hours to buy a pair just to flip ‘em. The value of the shoe to me is lost. We’re in the position to do something good and impact people — and that’s what we’re going to do.”

Along with staff, Lorenzo delivered two trucks full of footwear, sweatpants, T-shirts, hoodies, jackets and water to the area.

“I’m in the position to give — how dare I give it away to someone who doesn’t need it,” he said.

Among the wares, Lorenzo’s team delivered Fear of God’s military-inspired high-tops ($1,095), Fear of God x Vans SK8-Hi sneakers ($100), which debuted in August, and the brand’s collaborative Era “all-over” shoe.
