Fila Signs Sponsorship Deal With Marin Cilic

Croatian tennis pro Marin Cilic is returning to the Fila family.

On Friday, the athletic brand announced it has signed a multiyear sponsorship deal with Cilic, the No. 9 ranked player on the ATP World Tour.

For the past few years, the tennis star has been sporting Li-Ning gear on the court, but he actually got his start with Fila. “I spent many years at the beginning of my career with Fila, and I had such a nice relationship with the brand,” Cilic said in a statement. “It started when I was 16, and in the second week of my partnership with Fila, I won the French Open junior title. It was already a big sign of a successful and beautiful relationship.”

As part of this new union, Cilic will wear the Fila Heritage apparel collection in the U.S. Open, which starts Monday. And he will gradually transition over to the brand’s Cage Delirium performance tennis shoe, which currently retails for $100 at Fila.com.

Cilic is considered a dark horse to win the 2016 tournament in New York. But after defeating Andy Murray in the Cincinnati Open earlier this month, his chances are looking brighter. And with Roger Federer out recovering from a knee injury, we could see Cilic repeat his 2014 victory at the U.S. Open.
