A group of high school students from Texas is winning over the hearts of more than 5 million viewers after a Facebook video of the students gifting sneakers to their classmate went viral.
Students from Somerset High School pooled their money together to gift classmate J.R. Gilbert not one, but two pairs of new sneakers after learning that the boots he wore daily didn’t actually fit him.
Gilbert, a special needs student who has hydrocephaly and ADHD, according to NBC News, was known for wearing his grandfather’s hand-me-down boots although they were too small for his size 13 feet. “He was telling me that his shoes didn’t fit him and if I knew someone who wore a size 13. I didn’t. It bothered me that one of my friends didn’t have the appropriate things he needed so he could be comfortable. I wanted to do something,” peer Salvador Solis told NBC News.

Solis collaborated with friends Martin Ramos and Roger Villegas to organize a fundraiser for Gilbert which ultimately raised $180 with around 20 donations. The students then used the money to buy Gilbert two pairs of Nikes and gifted them to him on Friday.
“Wow! You got my favorite kind, too!,” Gilbert says upon opening the gift.
The heartwarming clip has been viewed 5.5 million times as of 4 p.m. ET.
