Fans were stunned and elated by the Chicago Cubs’ epic victory over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday, effectively ending the team’s 108-year losing streak to claim the Major League Baseball’s World Series championship.
The Cubs triumphed over the Indians 8-7 on the losing team’s home turf. It’s the Cubs’ third time winning the title — previously winning in 1907 and 1908.

Naturally, words of praised erupted on social media, and some boldface names roared with support.
While on the campaign trail, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton let loose after watching the victory on a tablet and laptop device. “They did it! 108 years later and the drought is finally over. Way to make history, @Cubs. #FlyTheW -H,” she tweeted.
Taking a departure from her usual demeanor, the politician was seen in photos fist-pumping, and later she took a seat, threw her head back and spread her arms wide, beaming with her eyes closed.

First lady Michelle Obama rooted for her hometown team: “Go @Cubs, go! Been rooting for you since I was a kid, and so incredibly proud tonight. #FlytheW –mo,” she tweeted.
“Our whole Jumanji set erupted when the Cubs won. 108 years. Congrats boys & Chicago. Happy for you. Hard work pays. #WorldSeries,” Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson tweeted.
The actor-athlete is no stranger to commitment and hard work. In August, he told fans that he plans to put the prototype of his first signature shoe for Under Armour to the test by wearing it every day, including during his grueling workouts, ahead of its release early next year.
Comedienne and shoe designer Ellen DeGeneres also applauded the Cubs. “I’m not saying I’m a huge baseball fan, but that game was historic. Congrats @Cubs & @Indians and your amazing fans! #WorldSeries,” she tweeted.
The last time the Cubs made it to the World Series was in 1945. But the chance for glory eluded the team for the next 71 years, igniting superstition of the “Curse of the Billy Goat.”
According to legend, during the 1945 World Series, Billy Goat Tavern restaurant-chain owner Billy Sianis doomed the team after he was ejected from the ballpark because fans complained of his pet goat’s foul odor. “Them Cubs, they ain’t gonna win no more,” he purportedly said at the time.
Cubs fans can now rest assured: The curse (and title drought) is over.
