Jordan Brand Sent Russell Westbrook To China & Here’s What He Did

It’s become an annual tradition in the sports world that pro basketball players spend the off-season flying the friendly skies to help convert new followers to the game.

Earlier this summer, Nike whisked Kevin Durant over to China, while Under Armour’s Stephen Curry toured all over Asia.

Jordan Brand athlete Russell Westbrook also got a chance. The Oklahoma City Thunder guard traveled to China recently for a three-city tour, visiting Beijing, Hong Kong and Taipei.

It was quite a whirlwind trip. In Beijing, Westbrook hosted clinics with young players and attended the official launch of the new Air Jordan XXXI sneakers.

He also appeared for two nights at the final of the China Empire League to talk about the importance of persistence. Before heading out of town, he offered a quick farewell on Instagram:

Then it was on to Hong Kong, where Westbrook attended a Jordan WINGS event at the Youth Outreach, Sai Wan Ho, which has been a brand partner since 2013. There, the basketball star spent time talking and listening to the students, and then showed them some of his best skills for an on-court pickup game.

That night, he hit up another Jordan XXXI celebration at Jordan 8 Wellington, Central, where he himself was schooled in the art of miniature landscaping.

But judging from his social feed, Westbrook also found a couple of minutes to enjoy Hong Kong’s legendary skyline, from waaaay up high.

The last stop on his tour was Taipei, which was celebrating the launch of its own Jordan WINGS program, an initiative created in partnership with the China Foundation of Poverty Alleviation. Other highlights from the visit included a final “Court Zero” event for fans and a special breakfast with athletes involved in the Jordan Breakfast Club training program.

To say goodbye to the city — and to China — Westbrook posted one last fun-filled shot from the “Court Zero” event:
