Kanye West Takes Aim At Nike In New Single “Facts”

Kanye West made headlines throughout 2015 for his Yeezy Boost collabs with Adidas, and he is about to make headlines again, on the first day of the new year.

The famed rapper, record producer and designer dropped his latest single on New Year’s Eve titled “Facts,” which takes shots at the former home to his Yeezy sneakers, Nike.

In relation to the athletic brand he was formerly associated with, West states, “Nike, Nike treat employees just like slaves/Gave LeBron a billi’ not to run away.” He also makes reference to his 2015 VMAs election bid, and sneaker success with Adidas — noting that while he hasn’t “dropped an album” his “shoes went platinum.”

The song’s hook, “Yeezy, Yeezy, Yeezy just jumped over Jumpman,” eludes to his sneakers surpassing the Air Jordan line in popularity. This is not the first time West has referenced his product in relation to the Air Jordan. In 2012, West and Pusha T dropped “New God Flow” which stated “Hold up, I ain’t trying to stunt man, but the Yeezys just jumped over the Jumpman.”

Although his fame certainly doesn’t necessitate additional publicity, his wife Kim Kardashian West, took to her social accounts to support her husband, while fellow Adidas sponsored rapper – Pusha T posted the single’s artwork to his Instagram account.

This is the second year running that West has released a track on New Year’s Eve — in 2014, he unveiled his single “Only One” shortly before in became 2015.

The latest Yeezy shoe to drop was the Yeezy Boost 350 in the tan colorway, which was released on Dec. 29. The shoe made its way to eBay within hours of the official release, with asking prices around $2,000.
