Australian tennis player Lleyton Hewitt’s loss to David Ferrer in the second round of the Australian Open brought the 34-year-old’s nearly 20-year career to a close.
After the match, Hewitt said that throughout his career, he “left nothing in the locker room. My whole career I’ve given 100 percent.”
Hewitt won two Grand Slam titles: the U.S. Open in 2001 and Wimbledon in 2002. He also won 30 singles tour titles and was part of the Australian team to win two Davis Cups. Perhaps Hewitt’s crowning achievement came in 2001, when he became the youngest player to be ranked No. 1 at age 20.
Hewitt has had a deal with Japanese company Yonex since 2005. He uses the brand’s racquets and wears its shoes and accessories, and his apparel is courtesy of American brand Athletic DNA.

To document Hewitt’s final year of play, the Australian Open followed him beginning at last year’s tournament. This Australian Open marks Hewitt 20th time at the tournament.
At a press conference last week, Roger Federer said Hewitt made him a better player.
“Lleyton was something special … [he] made me figure out my game,” Federer said.
Meanwhile, a recent article published by Buzzfeed and the BBC claims that there has been match-fixing at the highest levels of tennis, though the investigation did not reveal any names.
