Outdoor Retailer Changes Its 2017 Winter Market Dates

Although the show had a solid turnout, criticism of the dates selected for the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market show last January circulated on the expo floor. The concerns have led to a date change for next year’s winter event.

Concerns addressed by Outdoor Retailer — stemming from post-show surveys and conversations — include shifting to a preferred midweek date pattern from a schedule that includes weekends, employing a three-day show format, and pushing back the dates to distance the show from prior major retailer order deadlines.

The 2017 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market show will take place Jan. 10-12, with the All Mountain Demo scheduled for Jan. 9.

While event organizers made changes to the dates of the Winter Market expo, it announced today on its website that it’s engaging in research to ensure every upcoming show correctly serves the needs of the entire outdoor industry.

“We are engaged in a research project that includes interviews along with an online survey being executed by a third-party research firm who will help us study the long-term needs of the industry, identify opportunities for improvement and to understand the optimal timing for both the Summer and Winter events moving forward,” the statement on the Outdoor Retailer website said. “Order deadlines and selling cycles are potentially different for many of our segments, but we look to best represent the needs of a majority of our audience and, as well, consider solutions around sales cycles that differ from the majority.”

The Outdoor Retailer Summer Market will take place Aug. 3-6, with the Open Air Demo taking place Aug. 2.
