Lately, there’s been controversy in the NFL surrounding players who wear customized cleats during games. Some have been hit with fines by the league, but this week, players are being encouraged to bring their personal stories to their shoes.
For Week 13 of the 2016 season, the NFL has kicked off its “My Cause My Cleats” initiative, which encourages players to share their commitment to charitable causes through their cleats. We’ve already seen a few players display theirs during Thursday night’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s Adidas cleats were a tribute to his mom, Peggy, who died of colon cancer in 2013, and the American Cancer Society. Teammate Ezekiel Elliott supported the SPCA of Texas.

During this weekend’s action, players from around the league will be supporting various causes, among them the Alzheimer’s Association, Lupus Foundation of America, American Diabetes Association, National Alliance for Mental Health and Prevent Child Abuse America.
