Nike isn’t opposed to reimagining its most beloved classic silhouettes — the Air Force 1, the Blazer and the Flyknit Chukka, for example — to shoes built for the golf course. The brand is set to bring street style to the green once again, this time reinterpreting an iconic 1990s runner.
The Nike Air Zoom 90 IT — which made its debut Thursday on the feet of Rory McIlroy during the Players Championship — arrives in stores Friday in a predominantly black colorway with white throughout, followed by a predominantly white with black colorway on June 1.
“I wear Air Max casually off the golf course all the time,” McIlroy said in a statement issued Thursday. “Making it into a golf shoe really brings something new to the golf course. Not only is it different and very cool, but it also performs well, giving me the comfort, traction and stability that I need.”

The shoe features a custom Zoom Air sole in the forefoot for lightweight and responsive cushioning, a waterproof upper with a one-piece bootie construction to keep the foot dry, and a rubber outsole with the brand’s Integrated Traction so golfers could wear the shoe on and off the golf course.
“I dress pretty casually off the course, so it’s nice to have options. If I want to go straight from the course to somewhere else, I can do it and not feel like I standout and look like a golfer,” McIlroy said.
