She won four consecutive women’s college national titles at the University of Connecticut, and now she’s a Nike-sponsored athlete. The brand announced today that it signed Breanna Stewart to a multi-year endorsement deal.
The 6-foot-4 forward was the first overall pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft on Thursday, selected by the Seattle Storm. The top three picks were all UConn Huskies: Moriah Jefferson was chosen second overall by the San Antonio Stars and Morgan Tuck third by the Connecticut Sun.
Stewart wore Nike throughout her time at UConn, including a white, blue and red iteration of the Nike KD8 Elite with the Huskies logo on the heel. The Connecticut standout said in a statement that her deal with Nike would resonate with today’s youth.
“Being strong and bold while carrying yourself with humility and confidence is something I hope to share with young kids,” she said.

In addition to winning four consecutive national titles, Stewart also earned four tournament Most Outstanding Player awards.
Stewart, a native of Syracuse, N.Y., is one of five players that the Beaverton, Ore.-based athletic label announced it signed today, a list that includes Rachel Banham, Aerial Powers, Jonquel Jones and Tiffany Mitchell.
On April 5, the UConn Huskies defeated the Syracuse Orange in the women’s title game, 82-51. Stewart scored 24 points on 7-of-17 shooting, with 10 rebounds and six assists.
