Nike Inc. is getting ready to roll out a collection of city-inspired sneakers from around the globe.
The Beaverton, Ore.-based firm, which in recent days found itself embroiled in a controversy in Kenya, plans to launch a number of silhouettes within its Air Max line.
First up: a powder women’s shoe inspired by Art Nouveau and the Parisian Metropolitan arches. The style, available March 16, pays tribute to the City of Light’s storied design history.
A day later, the company will turn its attention to China by debuting the Nike Air Max 90 Ultra, also part of its City Collection. Nike will reveal styles, taking cues from the vibrant colors seen in Shanghai, that also give a nod to ancient Chinese architecture and textiles.

And on March 18, the athletic giant will pay respect to London with the Nike Air Max BW Ultra women’s shoe, inspired by Victorian patterns.
Nike debuted late last month a new version of its Air Max BW Ultra sneaker, an update to the 25-year-old Air Max Classic BW.
The Air Max Classic, designed by Tinker Hatfield in 1991, quickly became a hit with distance runners. The styles also became a favorite with American hip-hop artists and on the European club scene.
