Nike To Release FootballX ‘Distressed Indigo’ Pack

Are Nike soccer cleats as cool as a luxury race car? Nike seems to think so.

The Beaverton, Ore.-based athletic company has unveiled a new series of FootballX cleats for small-sided games. The “Distressed Indigo” pack includes updated versions of the MercurialX, MagistaX and HypervenomX cleats, outfitted with a rich indigo base color, accented with bright color pops on the Swoosh logo, outsoles and heels.

To tout the new collection, Nike created a video comparing the cleats’ appearance and performance features to a powerful racing machine.

In early 2015, Nike launched the FootballX collection, which includes special versions of its most popular soccer cleats, reimagined especially for small-sided matches (i.e., casual games played on nonregulation surfaces and featuring fewer players).

At the time of the launch, Max Blau, VP of Nike football footwear, said, “We’ve met with small-sided players all over the world, and they want the same performance benefits Magista and Mercurial provide, but with outsoles and colorways unique to their game.”

NikeFootballX boots feature recycled Nike Grind rubber on high-abrasion and drag areas for enhanced durability, and also have increased cushion to protect against hard surfaces.

The new “Distressed Indigo” pack will be available Sunday through the Nike Football app and will hit Nike.com on Tuesday.
