Nike Golf Roster Swells With 14 New Athletes

Nike has a long history of working with winners, and its golf division is no different. Its current roster includes top-ranked athlete Rory McIlroy, who signed in 2013, and the legendary — and sometimes controversial — Tiger Woods, who has headlined many of the brand’s best commercials over the years.

This week, Nike Golf introduced the next generation of star players by adding 14 names to its lineup. A representative confirmed to Footwear News that all of them will represent the Swoosh from head to toe, wearing its footwear and apparel and utilizing its equipment on the links.

Among the new team standouts are Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau.

Koepka, a Florida native who competed at Florida State University, turned pro in 2012 and is currently ranked 16th in the Official World Golf Rankings. In the 2015 PGA Tour, the 25-year-old was a top 10 finisher in driving distance, won the Phoenix Open title and held his own at the PGA Championship, tying for fifth place.

And Koepka seems to be pretty stoked about this latest achievement. In a statement, he said, “Nike is an iconic brand. All these great, legendary athletes, such as Kobe Bryant, seem to be with Nike. I’m lucky enough to represent the best company in the world. I’m excited with what Nike will do in the future for the game of golf [and] I know that this partnership will help me achieve my personal goals.”

Meanwhile, the Utah-born Finau, who turned pro in 2007 after high school and is currently ranked No. 2 for average driving distance on the PGA Tour, has another reason to be excited to join the Nike family. His cousin, NBA basketball player Jabari Parker, is sponsored by Jordan Brand.

The 6′ 4″ golfer said in a statement, “I look forward to striving for greatness as a lot of Nike athletes have.”
