Nike To Release ‘Elite’ LeBron James Sneaker

Nike plans to update its hot-selling line of shoes from NBA superstar LeBron James.

The Beaverton, Ore.-based company will unveil an “evolved version” of James’ 13th shoe with technical upgrades to its cage upper and carbon fiber shank. It also will place two additional hexagonal Zoom Air-sole units on each shoe.

The LeBron 13 Elite hits April 14 in a red version, with two more colorways landing on May 5, in white, and May 26, in black.

Nike said the new sneaker is made to be “stronger and lighter.” The LeBron 13 Elite uses “an extremely pliable and durable material throughout the upper, bringing a new aesthetic and providing a skin-like fit that moves with each stride,” said the statement. “Thinner layers are placed in areas that need more flexibility while thicker layers are in those that require added support.”

The athletic firm officially released the first colorway of the LeBron 13 on Oct. 1, in China, with a global rollout on Oct. 10. The shoe was designed to mirror James’ style of play: fast and aggressive. But it wasn’t known just for its technology. The LeBron 13 also boasted many personal touches, such as nods to his hometown of Akron, Ohio, and his birthday.
