A handful of lucky high school basketball teams just became some of LeBron James’ biggest fans after the reigning NBA Finals MVP personally gifted the squads full runs of his Nike signature sneakers.
After winning the 2015-16 Virginia 5A state title, the Potomac High School boys basketball team was rewarded with James’ Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier 10 sneakers and custom Nike apparel commemorating the team’s title win.
“Last season was special. But it’s time to make more history,” read a personalized and signed note from James. “Only as a team — remember that. That’s the only way you can reach new heights. I’ll be watching.”
According to InsideNoVa, James’ shipment was arranged in October, when Nike emailed Keith Honore, head coach of the Dumfries, Va., team, and asked him to get in touch with a research group. Honore obliged, and Nike later contacted him asking him for the shoe sizes of his players. Still, Honore was skeptical. “I never suspected this,” the coach said.

This isn’t the first gift of this kind from Nike and James, either. Last week, they sent sneakers and apparel to other high schools, including the West Linn, Ore., boys and Spotswood, Va., girls teams.
