Nike Signs Young Australian Golf Pro Ryan Ruffels

Nike golf is in full swing.

The Beaverton, Ore.-based company has added another golfer to its roster. The company said today that it signed 17-year-old Australian Ryan Ruffels. The new brand ambassador follows the athletic company’s move earlier this month when it added 14 names — with standouts Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau — to its lineup.

Ruffels, who turned professional this month and is a fast-rising talent in the sport, can be seen decked out in Nike from head to toe this week, as he plays in his first PGA Tour tournament, the Farmers Insurance Open.

The son of two pro tennis players, Ruffels made a name for himself early on by winning a number of amateur tournaments.

After the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open, held in San Diego, Ruffels is tied in 34th place, having shot 2 under par.

In addition to his Nike spikes, the player is using clubs from the firm’s Vapor Fly series on the course.

Ruffels joins an elite roster that includes top-ranked athlete Rory McIlroy, who signed with the Swoosh in 2013, and Tiger Woods.
