Nike’s Updated Tennis Classic Drops Monday

Given the brand’s current dominance in tennis, with its shoes worn by the sport’s top stars, one would think Nike has always been a staple on clay and grass. But the brand didn’t make a profound impact until 1973, when it released a footwear gem that still gets worn today.

On Monday, fans of tennis and Nike could pick up an updated version of its classic court shoe. The NikeCourt Tennis Classic Ultra Flyknit arrives next week for men and women with a $150 retail price. The shoe will be sold via nike.com and select Nike retailers.

The shoe features a Flyknit upper for breathability and support, with flexible ultra tooling to keep the silhouette lightweight and comfortable.

There are slight differences between the men’s and women’s versions of the shoe. The men’s features a leather Swoosh and heritage Nike Tennis Classic heel tab, along with a cork sockliner. The women’s version boasts a more streamlined look with a printed Swoosh, a higher sculpted collar and fewer overlays.

The original shoe was one of four tennis styles released by the brand in 1973, according to the brand, and was worn for 20 years by the brand’s tennis stars including John McEnroe, a winner of multiple Grand Slam titles in the 1970s and 1980s.
