Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t get good on the pitch, beating the competition with his fast speed, without getting himself in great shape first. Nike’s latest training shoe is inspired by the soccer star’s style of play and built with speed in mind.
The Nike Train Ultrafast Flyknit arrives in stores on Wednesday. The shoe will be available at nike.com and select Nike retailers. It will debut in six colorways: bright mango and hyper jade; racer blue, total crimson and blue glow; volt, pink blast and deluxe glow; black and white; hyper jade and volt; and wolf gray and hyper jade.
The shoe, according to the brand, boasts similar features to what Ronaldo likes most about his Mercurial Superfly boots, including a Flyknit collar and supportive lockdown fit.
The Nike Train Ultrafast Flyknit also uses a new lightweight flex speed plate (similar to what’s used on the Nike Zoom Superfly Flynit track and field spike) as well as a new chain-link Flyknit upper with Flywire cables (similar to the intertwined bands of the Nike Free Trainer 5.0), offering a dynamic fit that adjusts and supports the foot.

Rob Williams, Nike’s training design lead, in a statement spoke to how all of Nike’s technology in the shoe works together.
“The Nike Train Ultrafast Flyknit’s diamond-shaped Flyknit upper is lightweight, super breathable and linked together in chain-link-like system,” he said. “Nike Flywire is woven through the Flyknit cables and functions like a Chinese finger trap toy, delivering a 3-D containment system that locks down and engages all the way around the foot. Then, we introduced the Flex Speed plate underfoot, cutting diamond shapes out of the underfoot Pebax plate in order to push the cushioning through, resulting in superior responsive propulsion for speed training.”
