February is Black History Month, and Puma is celebrating with a pack honoring former Olympic track and field athlete Tommie Smith.
Smith made history at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City when he won the 200-meter sprint in under 20 seconds—the first time anyone broke the 20-second mark.
Upon standing on the podium, Smith removed his Puma Suede sneakers and put a black sock on his hand. His teammate John Carlos did the same, and they each raised one arm above their heads in what became known as the “Black Power” salute. The two men were subsequently forced out of the games, but continued to be active in supporting human rights issues. Smith went on to play for the Cincinnati Bengals beginning in 1969.

The Puma Black History Month Pack includes both the Puma Suede sneakers and the Sky II High sneakers, both featuring Smith’s iconic silhouette on the tongue. The shoes feature multicolored geometric prints and heather gray jersey detailing.
The sneakers will be available on Feb. 5 and range in price from $75-$90 at retailers including Sheikh Shoes, Villa, and the Puma Lab Powered by Foot Locker.
