Reebok’s Ronda Rousey Says Striving for Self-Betterment is More Fun Than Seeking Perfection

Ronda Rousey is just weeks away from her return to the octagon. Since her stunning upset loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November 2015 — and losing the women’s bantamweight title in the process — the Reebok athlete has been busy training for her comeback.

On Dec. 30 in Las Vegas, Rousey will face Amanda Nunes to regain her title.

On Wednesday, she made an appearance via video message at a Reebok event in New York. There, Rousey talked about her idea of #PerfectNever (Reebok’s latest campaign).

She said, “To me, perfect never is experiencing life before you record it. Jump on a rock and spread your arms because you feel good, not because it’s a perfect social media opportunity.”

Rousey spoke on her current quest for redemption: UFC 207, which she said requires 100 percent of her attention. She encouraged the group of women listening to dare to take risks and to embrace flaws and setbacks.

“You are not perfect and neither and I am. We will never be,” she said. “Striving for self-betterment and redemption is a hell of a lot more fun and fulfilling than just trying to maintain perfection.”

Rousey isn’t a stranger to celebrating imperfections, either. The former champion starred in Reebok’s #PerfectNever ad in July as part of the brand’s ongoing “Be More Human” efforts.
