Some of the country’s top athletes are packing their bags and heading to Rio to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Prior to their gold-medal pursuits, stars sponsored by New Balance, Brooks and Under Armour shared what they laced up to prepare for their events.
Trayvon Bromell
New Balance
Men’s 100 meters
“I train in the Vazee 2090, which is the best training shoe for me,” he told FN. “Keeps me light on my feet, and speed is no issue with wearing these shoes.”

Emma Coburn
New Balance
3,000-meter Steeplechase
“I’m training in the Vazee Pace primarily but also wear the Vazee Rush,” she said. “I like how the Vazee Pace feels fast and responsive. I like that the Vazee Rush feels a little bit more cushioned for when I need a good recovery run. I race in the 5000s and do some workouts in the MD 800s and the RC 5000s.”

“I just seem to be so much more bouncy in those bad boys,” he said of the Launch 3, adding that he prefers the brand’s Tokyo special-edition colorway.

Jenny Simpson
New Balance
1,500 meters
“I have a lot of different training shoes, but the same shoes that I wore on the track and in the Trials will be the same ones I wear in the Olympics — my racing spikes are the MD 800,” she said. “I use those for workouts about twice a week. My trainers are New Balance 880s and 870s.”
