Ronnie Fieg’s Surprise Asics Release Is Reselling for More Than $2,000

The holidays came early for Ronnie Fieg fans: On Monday, the winner of Footwear News‘ 2016 Retailer of the Year honor unleashed a surprise drop of some of his most coveted Asics collaborations.

Following last week’s “Legends Day” release, Fieg made a strong case for the best Cyber Monday sneaker release by launching his “Salmon Toe 2.0” and “Militia” Asics Gel-Lyte 3 collaborations online with no warning.

The sneakers sold out just as quickly as they appeared, and unless you were one of the lucky few who happened to be quick enough to score a pair, it’s going to cost a pretty penny to obtain these on the secondary market.

The “Salmon Toe 2.0” colorway — which is a spin on a Fieg collaboration from 2011 — is especially costly, with several pairs currently listed on eBay for more than $2,000. Meanwhile, the “Militia” colorway is also going for exorbitant prices, with many listings surpassing the $1,000 mark.

While the aftermarket prices may seem shocking to some, it’s important to note that these weren’t any ordinary sneaker release. For starters, many fans have been clamoring for these two colorways for years. Now that they’ve seemingly already come and gone, people are willing to spend more than usual to obtain the unicorn-like sneakers. Secondly, these collaborative pairs are handmade in Japan — a rarity for athletic footwear — and come packaged with commemorative accessories such as laces and pins.
