Reports surfaced Monday that Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry would be named the 2016 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player. But the reports didn’t state he’d win the award in a manner never done before.
Curry is the first player in NBA history to win the MVP honor unanimously.
The guard — who won the award last season as well — recorded all 131 first-place votes, which includes the 130 votes from sportswriters and broadcasters and the one vote from the Kia MVP fan vote, according to a statement from the league.
To commemorate the achievement, Under Armour will release the Curry MVP Back 2 Back Pack. The two-shoe collection features a re-release of the MVP colorway of his first signature shoe, the Curry One, and a new MVP colorway of his latest signature shoe, the Curry Two. The shoe will be available on June 24 at select retailers and Under Armour Brand Houses throughout the country.

The shoe was available for preorder via the brand’s website, UA.com, and quickly sold out.
Curry received 1,310 points, besting second-place finisher Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs (634 votes) and third-place finisher LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers (631 points). First-place votes received 10 points each, seven points were awarded for second-place votes, five points for third place, three points for fourth place, and one point for fifth-place votes.
Curry led the league in scoring with 30.1 points per game, 3-pointers made in a season with an NBA-record 402, a free-throw percentage of 90.8, and 2.14 steals per game.
