Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry may think his signature shoes for Under Armour are “fire,” but his handlers have concerns about the style.
The two-time NBA MVP revealed in an interview on Saturday with ESPN in Guangzhou, China, that he wanted to wear his UA “Chef” sneakers during the 2016 NBA Finals, but Warriors general manager Bob Myers and his agent Jeff Austin objected because they were concerned about how the sneakers’ low silhouette could have affected his ankle.
“He revealed for the first time Saturday that he was ready to wear them for Game 4, but was talked out of it by Warriors general manager Bob Myers and his agent Jeff Austin, who were concerned about the low cut given Curry’s history of ankle issues,” ESPN’s Darren Rovell reported.
In April, Curry suffered ankle problems during the NBA Playoffs.

When the athlete’s all-white Two Low “Chef” sneakers dropped in June, Twitter was set ablaze with memes that skewered the $120 footwear for being dull and “dad”-like.
Around the time after the release, Curry was asked about the Internet backlash following the Warriors’ Game 4 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Noticeably, he had not donned the sneakers of the court after the social media roasting.
“If I had them in the road bag, I definitely would have worn them,” Curry told reporters. “To show how fire they are.”
Recently, GQ magazine put the dad-like style to the test — asking real fathers to review the shoes. To no one’s surprise, the kicks were well-received.
