Carolina Panthers fourth-year quarterback Cam Newton was the league’s MVP, but he was bested by his 39-year-old counterpart Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in a wire-to-wire Super Bowl win, 24-10.
While Manning, who began his career in 1998 with the Indianapolis Colts, has typically been the leader of whatever team he played for, Denver’s defense played a huge role in the team’s victory, led by the play of its Super Bowl MVP linebacker, Von Miller.
Miller, who hit the field in Adidas, had 2.5 sacks and forced a critical fumble in the first half that led to a defensive touchdown.
Manning hit the field in a cleat he was familiar with, one he wore throughout the regular season, a white and black pair of the Nike Code Pro ¾. Newton warmed up in his MVP edition gold cleats and a Superman shirt, but when game time hit he sported a more subdued look, a jet black with blue accent edition of his C1N cleat.

For the game, Manning completed 13 of 23 passes, throwing for 141 yards. Newton ended the game completing 18 of 41 passes for 265 yards. He was sacked six times by the Denver defense. Neither quarterback had a passing touchdown in the game.
Newton and the Panthers never had a chance against the Broncos. During the first half, the Carolina quarterback was punished by the Denver defense, including being sacked four times. Newton was limited to 95 yards passing, completing eight passes on 19 attempts.
Manning, although going into the second half with a lead, didn’t fare much better than his Under Armour-sporting counterpart. The veteran quarterback threw for 76 yards on nine of 16 passing with an interception. Despite the low numbers, Denver still went into the locker room with a 13-7 lead.
Manning now has two Super Bowl wins on his already impressive resume.
