The Alp of the ’90s is back. No, not “Alf” — that was the ’80s.
We’re talking about Teva‘s popular Alp sandal, which is being reintroduced starting for spring ’17. The retro outdoor style originally debuted in 1990 and features a series of crisscross adjustable nylon straps.
For its return to the market, Teva is offering a basic throwback version and also the Alp Premier, a contemporary update to the classic that features the brand’s proprietary FloatLite topsole and a contoured footbed. The styles will retail for $60 to $80.
While the Alp was originally envisioned as a performance sport sandal, it will likely be embraced as a fashion item, just like the Teva Original Universal style has been. In recent years, that look has been interpreted through collaborations with Derek Lam and Opening Ceremony and been updated by Teva with luxe materials.
In fact, for spring ’17, the Original Universal will appear in a few new incarnations: The Original Sandal Fringe will come in a suede material perfect for the Coachella crowd, and the Original Universal Premier will up the comfort factor with a FloatLite topsole and contoured footbed.

The Original Sandal Fringe will sell for $80, and the Original Universal Premier for $80 to $100.
Another new style debuting for spring ’17 is the Arrowood Swift casual sneaker that comes in a laceup and slip-on version. The $100 shoe features an adjustable neoprene upper meant to reference Teva’s watery heritage. So in this sneaker, you can look like you’re ready for the shore even when you’re just headed downtown.
