These Vetements x Reebok Pump Sneakers Defy Normality

Vetements’ collaborative sneaker with Reebok has yielded a playful assault on the sportswear giant’s uninhibited InstaPump Fury.

The Vetements x Reebok Pump Supreme dropped Friday and features its predecessor’s signature eternal pump, along with sleek treatments in an exclusive black colorway available for men and women for $430 at SSense.com.

“The Pump Supreme follows the Fury genealogy, but brings a defiant normality to an aesthetic that’s still strange,” sneaker historian Gary Warnett explained on the retailer’s website. “The stark lines of Vetements’ take on the Pump Supreme are devoid of bombast and excessive eccentricities, stripped down in contrast to the original Fury’s exaggerations.”

Just like the 1994 sneaker, it’s designed for running. The kicks include Reebok branding on the pump device and “Vetements” boldly emblazoned in white around the throat, and above that one shoe is stamped “left” and on the other is “right.” The multi-fabric upper features a knit material and the iconic shoe’s striking architectural synthetic detail.

Along with the sneakers, Vetements and Reebok collaborated on a collection of edgy wares that saw the athletic label’s tracksuits teamed with wader-high Lucchese Boot Company cowboy boots in July during Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week at the Galeries Lafayette in Paris.

Vetements’ buzzy presentation included 18 collaborations with other boldface name labels: Manolo Blahnik, Dr. Martens, COMME des GARÇONS, Carhartt WIP, Levi’s, Canada Goose, Eastpak, Alpha Industries, Champion, Schott, Brioni, Mackintosh, Church’s, Kawasaki and Juicy Couture.
