Former college football great turned NFL journeyman Tim Tebow has found a home — in baseball.
The newly signed Adidas athlete has inked a contract with the New York Mets to play minor league ball. Adam Schefter of ESPN broke the news Thursday morning on “Mike & Mike.”
According to reports, Tebow will begin his baseball career playing in the Mets’ instructional league in Port St. Lucie, Fla., which runs from Sept. 18 to Oct. 8.
Prior to Tebow’s workout for Major League Baseball teams on Aug. 30 — with representatives from 28 clubs in attendance — athletic staple Adidas signed him to a deal. Although its terms were undisclosed, Adidas confirmed via email with Footwear News that it had added Tebow to its roster of sponsored athletes.
Although baseball experts don’t expect Tebow, now 29 years old, to succeed in baseball, sports industry analysts believe because of the media attention he gets with whatever he does that he is a valuable asset to have.

“He has a great following among a subset of the population, and he is a huge marketing draw — who else could get this kind of publicity over a trial workout?” said Matt Powell, sports industry analyst at The NPD Group.
Before trying his luck with baseball, Tebow played in the NFL for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets. He was given a shot to make the rosters of the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles, but only hit the field in the preseason and was cut before regular-season action began.
