Timberland unveiled its Mono Grey 6-Inch boots on Wednesday, and what seemed to be a normal release of the popular silhouette turned into a social media frenzy.
Controversy hit Facebook after some users began likening the extra laces included with the boots to a “noose.”
It is unclear why this particular release sparked controversy as the company has a long history of included this lacing system with their iconic boots.

Social media continued to explode overnight and again this morning, and as expected Timberland immediately started to trend. Readers engaged in a heated debate surrounding the release with many choosing to defend the company and dismissing the claims as “ridiculous.”
Regardless of the heated backlash online, the new colorway from Timberland is being well-received.
