Under Armour To Preview New Trail Run Line At Outdoor Retailer

Although the second Outdoor Retailer event kicks off Wednesday in Salt Lake City, where top brands in the market show off their next season’s products, Under Armour leaked today its new trail run collection for spring ’17.

The brand’s upcoming Horizon trail run collection is executed with Michelin outsoles, durable welded overlays, ESS rock plates, and other celebrated Under Armour technologies. The collection features three silhouettes — Horizon FKT (Fastest Known Time), the Horizon RTR (Run The Ridge) and the Horizon STC (Stay The Course).

“The Horizon series is a true technical trail running collection featuring best-in-class technologies to help outdoor athletes achieve their personal best,” Chris Lindgren, VP of outdoor and training footwear at Under Armour, said in a statement. “The Horizon Series is built for the needs of a wide variety of trail runners from the enthusiast out on a weekend run with their crew to elite competitors participating in Ultra’s or Vertical K races.”

The highlight of the collection is the Horizon FKT, which will retail for $130. The shoe is designed for speed, agility and distance, with insights provided by Under Armour-sponsored ultra runner Kyle Dietz. The shoe boasts a forefoot ESS plate for protection, a translucent rip-stop upper with internal forefoot bootie construction and a high-density foam tongue, and a Michelin outsole with a Wild Dig Decent’ R lug pattern for all-weather traction.

The Horizon RTR boasts a more aggressive outsole than the Horizon FKT, built with better traction and downhill braking in mind. The shoe, which retails for $110, features Charged Foam in the heel, a reinforced toe bumper, and an ESS plate add for durability.

And the Horizon STC (Stay The Course), a shoe built for long training days and versatile trail use, features a beefier midsole profile for more cushioning for heel strikers as well as a higher foam wrap for added protection.  The shoe will retail for $90.

“Our footwear design, development and product teams executed the vision, were extremely committed to proving and testing the product concepts and bringing the series to our consumer,” Lindgren said. “We are very excited to get these shoes on trail with a broader audience and unveil the series at Outdoor Retailer.”
