When New Balance signed a sponsorship deal with sprinter Trayvon Bromell last year, the brand predicted he would help “drive the future of U.S. and global sprinting.” That bet seems to be paying off: The 21-year-old runner clocked a time of 9.84 seconds at the U.S. track and field trials earlier this month, putting him in prime position for the medal podium at his first Olympics.
In early competitions, Bromell wore the SD200v1 racing spikes, but he recently switched over to the new Vazee Sigma for the trials and games.
The shoe, which launches in October ’16 is “designed to maximize the transfer of energy from the foot, to the ground, and forward,” said a spokesperson for the brand. While the shoe was designed to target power-based sprinters, according to New Balance, it “could also be the choice of sprinters and hurdlers ranging from 60m to 400m.”
When not on the track, Bromell is busy finishing his degree at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
