Vans’ 50th Anniversary Kicks Off With Global Expansion of House Of Vans

Iconic action sports brand Vans is celebrating 50 years of its “Off The Wall” heritage in 2016.

The brand was launched in 1966 as the Van Doren Rubber Co., in Anaheim, Calif. There, it produced deck shoes in its own manufacturing facility, which were then sold directly to the public. The shoes’ rugged design and sticky rubber sole made them the perfect companion for skateboarding, a look quickly adopted by the rising subculture.

These beginnings led to Vans‘ 50-year history of “Off The Wall” moments in action sports, fashion, music and art, turning a pair of canvas shoes into a platform for creative expression around the world.

To celebrate the anniversary, Vans will offer special product releases throughout the year, showcasing its timeless design and innovation. The culmination of its legacy will kick off in March with the global expansion of Vans’ cultural hub, the international music venue, House of Vans.

In addition to House of Vans, the company promotes the action sports lifestyle, youth culture and creative self-expression through events and platforms such as the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, Vans U.S. Open of Surfing, Vans Pool Party, Vans Custom Culture and Vans Warped Tour.
