12 Boots Kids Can Wear While Picking Apples and Pumpkins

Fall is in full swing, and many families are celebrating the season with trips to their local farm for apple and pumpkin picking and other seasonal fun.

But while the fresh air, colorful foliage and rustic scenery can’t be beat, conditions on the ground are often muddy and dusty. The right footwear can help kids jump in and make the most of their day outside. We shopped the market and rounded up a selection of rough-and-tumble boots for both boys and girls that will keep them comfortable and protected as they go from hay rides to corn-maze races.

Key features to look for include sturdy, slip-resistant rubber outsoles, waterproof systems and moisture-wicking materials. For cooler days, there are plenty of styles with cozy linings and insulation for added warmth.

Bogs, a well-known name among farmers and outdoor enthusiasts, offers durable kids’ boots that pull on and off easily and can be worn over pants, keeping them clean and dry. Rain boots, such as Hunter’s classic Chelsea style, are another great option, as they keep mud and muck out and can be quickly wiped clean. Also perfect for the farm are rugged workboot-inspired styles, like Timberland’s classic lace-up boots.
