Hoka One One To Sponsor Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon

The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, one of the toughest three-sport races, starts with participants jumping off a ferryboat into the chilly, heavy-current water. Now athletic brand Hoka One One plans to take a similar plunge as well.

The Deckers Brands label, known for its extra thick midsoles, was named the footwear sponsor of the 36th annual race, held June 12 in San Francisco.

“As Hoka’s presence in the triathlon community grows, it is a natural fit to partner with one of the most well-known races in the world, and we are excited to be working with the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon team,” said the Goleta, Calif.-based brand’s president, Wendy Yang. “The whole Hoka family is impressed by the enduring athletes who take on this challenging race each year. It’s our pledge to design comfortable, lightweight and supportive running shoes to accommodate tired runners as they make their way up and down the hills of San Francisco and across the finish line.”

The grueling race, which highlights several San Francisco attractions, features a 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to Marina Green, followed immediately by an 18-mile hilly bike ride through the Presidio and an eight-mile run up the famous Sand Ladder.
