Rory McIlroy, Nike Tee Up Golf Campaign Ahead Of Masters

As the 2016 Masters Tournament tees off on Thursday, Nike has big plans to show the public the commitment required to become a golf champion.

Ahead of the sport’s first major of the year, the Beaverton, Ore.-based company will unveil on Monday a series of up-tempo videos on TV and across social media that highlight the hard work many of its sponsored golfers endure in their quest for victory.

The campaign stars Rory McIlroy — who has the chance to become the sixth player to win the modern Grand Slam — along with Michelle Wie, Tony Finau, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Rodgers.

The athletes in the series, according to Nike, enjoy the “chase for perfection” and “everything that comes with it: rising before the sun, practicing through blisters, overtime in the gym, eating right, sleeping right and seeking every opportunity to put club to ball.”

In the spots, the golfers are shown during their rigorous training routines. Some are doing push-ups in a hotel room or using the hallway as a putting green. Others do heavy weightlifting. Still others can been seen placing an emphasis on proper nutrition.

“If you don’t love the work you have to put in to become the best, then you may want to consider a different line of work or sport of choice,” said McIlroy in a statement. “I think the common denominator among every great athlete, no matter the sport, is they love the chase to improve. They dedicate themselves more, and that’s the main reason they’re better.”
