Florsheim’s Newest Fan Is Marco Rubio

Move over Johnston & Murphy and make way for Florsheim. While J&M has been crafting shoes for American presidents Millard Filmore in 1850 regardless of their part affiliation, it seems Marco Rubio has some fashion plans of his own.

The Republican candidate’s been spotted on the campaign trail on several occasions sporting a pair of sleek black ankle boots, a style reminiscent of the iconic Chelsea boots worn by the Fab Four.

According to John Florsheim, president and COO of Weyco Group, which owns the legendary Florsheim label, the style is the Duke, born in ’60s out of the Beatle boot fad. “We feel the retro vibe and trend is currently in for fashion in general and we like to think this style is retro cool. Ringo Starr actually picked up a couple of pairs in our Chicago store a few years back.”

And on the brands newest fan Marco Rubio? “We are flattered that our shoes are getting noticed. It’s good to know that our design and style stand out in the crowd.”

Florsheim went on to say, “The Duke may have originated in the ’60s, but as we all know, fashion recycles and the style is making a comeback. We’re pleased to see a style that we’re proud of being worn by all generations and people in all walks of life.”

The Duke, retailing for $135, is currently the number one selling style on Florsheim’s commerce site. Said Florsheim, “Think Elvis.”
