You don’t need a yacht or even row boat to step into a pair from the new Paul Sperry collection from iconic boat shoe brand Sperry. According to the company, the collection is targeted at today’s millennials, who are attracted to authentic brands with a backstory.
Coming off Sperry’s 80th anniversary in 2015, the collection was inspired and named after company founder Paul Sperry. The collection, retailing from $65 to $110, launches today. It pays homage to original styles, such as the canvas vulcanized oxford that featured a herringbone pattern on the outsole to prevent slipping on wet boats and docks. The look has been updated for men in the Flex Deck CVO, designed with a mesh upper and lining for quick drying, Hydro Grip rubber outsole with Adaptive Wave-Siping for underfoot cushioning and wet/dry traction.

Sperry created the first style to solve a real-life problem: how to maintain traction on a slippery boat deck. He found inspiration from his dog Prince, whose hundreds of small cracks and lines on the bottom of his paws kept the canine from slipping. That sparked the idea for his siped outsole design.
The collection also taps into other Sperry heritage looks, like the Authentic Original two-eyelet boat shoe, updated in the updated men’s Sojourn two-eye leather style. It features an athletic-inspired lightweight compressed EVA midsole and outsole with Adaptive Wave-Siping.
The collection also includes women’s styles Ripple Rush Mesh, a boat shoe disguised as a sneaker with a mesh upper, and Sayel Clew, a lace-less washed canvas slip-on.
