Alterre Customizable Shoe Collection Launches Kickstarter Campaign Today

Entepreneurs Shilpa Iyengar and Harmony Pilobello, founders of Alterre Shoes, could use a little help from some friends. The company today launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the next round of looks for fall ’16 and spring ’17.

Alterre Shoes, which launched online in fall ’15, is a contemporary women’s collection of modular looks that allows consumers to change the look of a shoe with a series of interchangeable uppers and bottoms that easily attach on and off.

Comfort was as important as versatility for the partners, with the two bases  — a low-heel slide and mid-heel version with closed toe — incorporating padded footbeds. There’s also additional space at the ball of the foot for some wiggle room. The series of combinations totals 125, making it easy to build a wardrobe without taking up valuable closet space.

The partners, who met at Parsons School of Design, are planning to add a series of new silhouettes that includes a higher-heel version and platform. To dress up the styles, they are adding some bling to the straps with some sparkle and shine.

There are a range of contribution options available. For example, $10 will get you a sneak peek at the upcoming collection, while $125 comes with a starter kit featuring a single base and two strap options. For those who really want to indulge, a pledge of $2,750 entitles the donor to a private styling party in their hometown, complete with 10 starter kits to give as gifts to friends.
